Depew, NY, is a small town in Erie County near Niagara Falls. The town was named after the president of the New York Central Railroad, Chauncey Mitchell Depew. The town lies between Lancaster, NY, and Buffalo, NY. It was originally named Cheektowaga, a name given to the area by the Native American tribes who lived here.
The town was founded in 1808 by Apollo Hitchcock. Not surprisingly, the town’s largest industry in the 1800s was the railroad industry. With its close proximity to two major areas and the fast growth of the railroad in the area, it wasn’t long until Depew was a major railroad town.
One of the most popular activities in Depew is the Weinstein Woods Natural Preserve and Environmental Center. The park is a popular place for birdwatching and hiking. The area is also great for snowshoeing and skiing in the winter. The park also hosts guided walks all year long.
The Broadway Driving Range and Miniature Golf Center is one of the best places for family fun in Depew. Kids love the miniature golf course, and adults love heading to the golfing range to hit a couple of balls. The pro shop also has a huge selection of sportswear, clubs and accessories.
When you’re hungry, you can head to Good Tymes South for a burger and fries. The restaurant has a pub atmosphere and a full bar. Some of the bar’s specialties include a bloody Mary with a burger slider on a stirrer stick. They also specialize in dishes like hillbilly chicken.
Hillview Restaurant offers locals a selection of foods from around the world. The atmosphere is casual and laid-back yet a little more sophisticated than some of the local pubs. They offer a large range of small bites and hearty entrees. They specialize in American food but also offer Greek souvlaki, chicken Oscar and Mediterranean chicken with pasta.
When you need to get out of the house by night, you can head down to the AMF Bowling Alley for some fun with the family or with friends. The alley also offers themed nights like disco bowling.
